Some believe that when Afghanistan was part of Iran, a man named Masoud Shah was appointed by the Safavid king to rule the region. He builds a tomb over which he extracts some stones from a nearby mountain, hence these stones become known as Shah Masoud stones and over time change to Shah Maqsood.
